ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A mobile home near Ellsworth & Broadway roads caught fire early this morning, killing a woman and her dog and leaving the home a total loss.  12 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dos Victorias, a California restaurant, has opened its second location in west Chandler by taking over the space formerly occupied by Los Favoritos at the southeast corner of Kyrene and Ray near Natural Grocers. The restaurant offers 15 types of lunch and dinner burritos plus a variety of other items and will operate Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed Easter Sunday, April 20).  Chandler Independent
  • 12News has featured female small business owners at Jarvis Jam this month — the story focuses on their entrepreneurial efforts and impact in our community.  12 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chandler Museum is now showing Gaman: Enduring Japanese American Internment at Gila River, an exhibit that explains the history of the internment camp near Chandler where more than 16,000 Japanese Americans were held during World War II. The exhibit will run until Jan 26 and the museum will host a public program called Our Stories on May 3 to talk about baseball behind barbed wire.  City of Chandler

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Arizona Public Service installed about half of its planned wildfire detecting cameras across the state — they already spotted at least two fire starts. The company will install 30 artificial intelligence cameras by May first — it will share the footage with the state fire management to help locate fires faster.  KJZZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Launched in March 2023, the internship program in partnership with Chandler-Gilbert Community College has placed nearly 70 students in paid roles with various city departments and will open applications for its sixth cohort on March 31—interns work for 16 weeks and some receive extensions based on positive performance. Alumni like Raislyn Snow have benefited from the mentorship and training and have moved into full-time city positions.  Chandler Arizonan
  • Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is warning local non-licensed retailers that selling THC-infused products violates state law — these businesses have until April 24 to stop selling the items or face enforcement.  12 News
  • Chandler city leaders proposed spending $150,000 on a digital marketing campaign to attract young families and workers as the median age rises and fewer residents are under 18 — the Industrial Development Authority approved the idea on March 11. The campaign will use short videos, social media posts, and print ads — officials say it is needed to boost the local economy despite high home prices and little new building land.  Chandler Arizonan
