COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chandler will host many community events in the coming weeks—upcoming programs include four virtual HOA Academy sessions by Mulcahy Law Firm on April 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 4-5:30 p.m., the Chandler Jazz Festival from April 3-6 with a Main Stage show on April 5 at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, and a blood drive by 6 Real Estate on April 19 at 4981 S. Arizona Ave. Additional events include a veteran charity golf tournament by the Elks on May 10 at Kokopelli Golf Club—other highlights are the Road to Riches Car Show on April 12 at City Hall Parking Garage, the Elevate Conference on Women on April 4 in Mesa, and game day at the Jewish Community Center on April 2.  Chandler Arizonan

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chandler's Buck-N Rodeo Grounds Rawhide Event Center at 5244 S. 48th St will host the Second Saturdays rodeo event on April 12 featuring bull riding, steer riding, calf riding, mutton busting, calf scrambles, boot races, stick horse racing and a free concert with live music by Bobby Joe Bell. The event runs from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and is part of the monthly series held from November through May.  Chandler Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 24th the Arizona State Board of Education dismissed charges against one Chandler Unified official while sending the discipline case of four others back to a lower agency for separate hearings after a 5-3 vote. The decision followed complaints of uncomfortable touching at Casteel High School that led to recommendations by the Professional Practices Advisory Commission.  Chandler Arizonan
  • Chandler Unified’s Governing Board voted on March 26 to change the libraries at Navarrete and Bologna Elementary into media centers after long talks that included board member Kurt Rohrs' worry about spending money after a failed bond vote. Willmeng Construction won the contract by a (3-1 vote) and the projects cost about $1.3 million at Navarrete and $1.95 million at Bologna (the district has $14 million in extra bond funds for needed building work).  Chandler Independent

  • Ava Prater, a Casteel High flag football star, has accepted a scholarship from Siena Heights University—she will soon leave for Michigan to start her college career. The senior player won a state championship with her team—proving her own talents despite comparisons to her NFL father, Matt Prater.  Chandler Arizonan
