On April 2, a 16-year-old Chandler High student was struck while crossing Arizona Avenue outside a crosswalk and died on April 6; police and school officials are investigating the fatal accident + his family has launched a GoFundMe to cover expenses.

Chandler Unified School District broke ground on the new Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary School on April 8, with the $40 million project set to replace the oldest elementary school when it opens in July 2027—students will also sign a structural beam during construction.
