  • The City of Chandler will host CinePark—its annual family movie series at Tumbleweed Park on three Fridays in May: May 2, May 9, and May 16. The event offers free outdoor screenings on a large screen with movie-themed activities starting at 6:30 p.m. and local vendors selling food while prohibiting alcohol and glass containers.  City of Chandler

  • Dr. Matthew Hunsaker celebrated the opening of his Rose Crest Dental office at 1080 E Pecos Road near McQueen Road today — he chose Chandler for its fast licensing process and business-friendly atmosphere. CRIME NEWS

  • Lori Vallow Daybell is on trial in Chandler where she faces charges of conspiring to murder her estranged husband—prosecutors finished their case presentation Wednesday, and she will decide on Monday whether to rest her case without presenting evidence. CULTURE NEWS

  • Chandler is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with free community events. The city will host Freedom, Hope, Future on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon at City Hall courtyard to honor Vietnam War veterans and Vietnamese culture—followed by the Asian American Community Connection meeting on Wednesday, April 30 from 4:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Phoenix Palace Restaurant with limited seating.  Chandler Independent

  • Officer Jacob Bello was once homeless on these Chandler streets and now patrols the same roads as a police officer; he joined the department last January after receiving support from local officers during his youth — a journey that maps a path from hardship to service.   • ADOT officials are asking Valley residents for feedback on their five-year construction plan for Arizona roads—input that will help shape upcoming projects. The agency said the comments will guide future work on state highways.  12 News

  • On Thursday, the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Miami Marlins 6 to 4 as Pavin Smith and Josh Naylor hit solo home runs that pushed the team to its fifth straight win—Smith and Geraldo Perdomo each drove in two runs while Naylor hit three homers.  12 News
  • At an April 8 Chandler Unified School District Governing Board meeting, Perry’s boys basketball team was honored for winning their fourth straight state title in March after a 63 to 44 win over Sunnyslope. The team, coached by Sam Duane Jr.—who previously won four titles at Corona del Sol—and senior Koa Peat, a University of Arizona commit, finished with a record of 27 wins to 2 and was ranked No. 4 nationally by MaxPreps.  Chandler Independent
  • Seton Catholic Prep senior Michelle Cruz Ceballos was chosen as one of 40 from 140 invitees to join the USA dragonboat team and will represent the country in July at the World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Brandenburg, Germany.
