- ➤ John Flores, a robotics & computer science teacher at Bogle Junior High in Chandler, was named a recipient of the Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards and received a $5,000 cash prize while his school got a $2,500 stipend, with a ceremony planned for May at the PERA Club. Chandler Independent

- ➤ A year ago, city leaders talked with Gilbert about building a shared police lab (plan ended), so Chandler will build its own lab. The new lab (designed to help police solve crimes) is expected to speed up investigations. Chandler Independent
- ➤ On April 7, city leaders held a study session for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Domestic Violence Commission took a photo with Mayor Kevin Hartke and council member Jennifer Hawkins. Hawkins read the mayor's proclamation — quoting that 41% of U.S. women and 26% of men had experienced sexual violence by an intimate partner — as the event marked a focused effort to raise awareness.
