Chandler opened a respite center at AZCEND—345 S.

California St.—on May 1 and nine cooling centers to help residents beat extreme heat. The centers offer air-conditioning, water, snacks, restrooms, showers and laundry services and run on set hours with extra service during heat warnings.

Gov. Katie Hobbs held a press conference Friday — outlining the state's ongoing and new preparations to fight extreme heat — while community leaders discussed boosting cooling measures for residents.
