- ➤ House lawmakers approved a bill on Tuesday to close loopholes in animal cruelty laws by expanding definitions to include failing to give pets proper medical care, food and water—spurred by a Chandler case that exposed severe neglect; the measure passed by a 41—13 vote and awaits a final roll-call before moving to the Senate. - ➤ Chandler announced that on Memorial Day, May 26, city offices, the Recycling-Solid Waste Center, libraries, and several community centers and museums will be closed while trash and recycling continue and pools remain open from noon to 5 p.m. Tumbleweed Recreation Center and Chandler Tennis Center will operate holiday hours, and the Recycling-Solid Waste Center will switch to summer hours on May 29—open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Monday—so residents know what to expect.
