- ➤ Gas prices in Chandler dropped to $4.71 a gallon the week of May 29 — AAA Mountain West Group warned prices may stay high as busy summer travel begins. Chandler Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Chandler Unified School District approved a $2.4M contract with Musco Lighting to upgrade metal halide stadium lights to energy-saving LED fixtures at five high schools — Basha, Casteel, Chandler, Hamilton and Perry — to cut electricity use and enhance game-time lighting. Chandler Independent
- ➤ EVIT and five school districts are in a dispute over student transportation to EVIT’s Mesa campuses for CTE classes, leaving families to arrange travel unless a new agreement is reached. EVIT Superintendent Chad Wilson offered to cover half the $4 million cost. Chandler Arizonan

- ➤ Chandler is updating its Recreation and Libraries Master Plan to guide a 10-year vision of parks and libraries. The public can give feedback online until August while the city refines current facilities — this effort follows a May 18 presentation and is part of a six-step plan set to finish next January. - ➤ The Maricopa County Association of Governments released on May 18 the annual Point-in-Time homeless count from Jan. 26, 2026, which showed numbers nearly unchanged from last year & will guide local policy on support services. Chandler Independent
