CRIME NEWS

  • A Chandler officer was shot in the line of duty on Monday and is in critical condition after gunfire injured him while a suspect was also hurt and taken to a hospital.  12 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Primavera will appear before the Arizona Charter Board at 10 a.m. today to present new evidence in its fight to stay open after receiving D letter grades. The school offers graduating students a $500 scholarship for essays on its support (a move criticized by a local parent who said it rewards lower GPAs) while the funds come from Verano Learning Partners.  12 News
  • Two students with Chandler ties received 2025 Empowering Diversity Scholarships awarded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona and Fiesta Sports Foundation—Ardyn Schmidtknecht from Seton Catholic Prep and ASU electrical engineering major Zan Saleem—who will use the awards to help them pursue higher education.  Chandler Independent

  • Maricopa County broke ground on a new tabulation and election center on May 22 + the center will support secure and efficient election processing with expanded equipment storage and processing capacity, and it is set to open in summer.   KTAR
  • Chandler’s city manager Josh Wright announced on May 29 he will resign on Aug 1 after nearly four years to become the University of Arizona’s chief facilities and planning officer. A Chandler native who joined city government in 2017 after work in Wickenburg and Marana, he will continue his career close to home—maintaining his local ties.  ABC 15
  • The Senate will soon consider a budget bill that may cut billions from SNAP—possibly forcing states to cover part of the cost and affecting nearly a million Arizonans who rely on food assistance. Experts warn the potential benefit loss could worsen food insecurity for families, seniors and children as living costs rise.  KJZZ
  • Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said she pushed for higher bond rules after seven Colombian nationals—accused in several East Valley burglaries—were arrested and placed at risk of fleeing under current nonviolent guidelines.  KJZZ
