- ➤ Chandler teen Everett Watson Jr.—who lost his left foot in February 2021 after a shooting while playing basketball—was given a private two-hour tour of State Farm Stadium where he received a Kyler Murray-signed football, three team shirts, and gift items from FirstBank to help with his medical expenses. - ➤ Siyaa Poddar, a rising senior at Arizona College Prep, won the Regeneron Young Scientist Award and a $75K scholarship by developing an affordable device that detects silica and uranium in the air to help protect local indigenous communities near uranium mines. - ➤ Today at 6 p.m. at Chandler City Hall, the City Council holds a mandatory public hearing on property tax rates—a special meeting afterward will approve the $1,628,875,875 fiscal 2026 budget that features a slight decrease from FY25, including lower capital spending and a reduced tax rate. The council has cited one-time savings and a maintained low transaction privilege tax rate as key parts of the plan. Chandler Independent
- ➤ At its May 22 meeting, the Chandler City Council approved a $1.15 million remodel to add a new multi-purpose program room, four study rooms, an ADA-compliant welcome desk, self-checkout areas, and improved workspaces at Hamilton Library next to Hamilton High School—Caliente Construction will begin work this summer while the library remains open with modified service levels.
