BUSINESS NEWS

  • Caribou Financial, a company that helps with auto-loan refinancing, signed a lease for nearly 10,000 square feet at The Alexander building on S. Arizona Place in Chandler as it expanded into Arizona. City officials welcomed the move—saying it will boost local talent recruitment and strengthen Chandler’s growing fintech industry.  City of Chandler

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Arizona Public Service asked state utility regulators to approve a 14% rate hike starting mid-2026—this will add about $20 to the average residential electric bill. The utility also seeks approval for more frequent rate adjustments and changes in rate design for large industrial users.  KJZZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chandler students earned spring 2025 college honors as Kyle Duffek (earning a 4.0 GPA required for the President’s List) made the list at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont and Ryan Cody and Emma Dinnan joined dean’s lists at William & Mary and Quinnipiac University respectively (recognizing their high grade averages).  Chandler Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced that the state will get $108 million from the Purdue Pharma settlement—payable over the next 15 years—as part of a $7.4 billion agreement to address the opioid crisis. This settlement brings Arizona’s total opioid funds to $1.1 billion for addiction treatment, prevention and recovery programs.  KJZZ
  • The City of Chandler approved a Master Energy Services Agreement with Ameresco—Inc. to install solar panels on 23 city facilities at a cost not to exceed $34,028,753. The 20-year contract is expected to bring about $42.4 million in savings and see construction completed in 2026.  City of Chandler
  • The U.S. Department of Defense started military training exercises in the Phoenix metro area on Monday and will continue through Saturday—Valley residents may notice low-flying helicopters, simulated gunfire and controlled explosions after dark, with police noting that the events are routine and coordinated with local law enforcement.  KJZZ
