  • On Monday night, residents in the Valley reported a bright streak in the sky that turned out to be a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launching 26 Starlink satellites from California. Scientists explained the bright glow as sunlight reflecting off the rocket engines during the Twilight Phenomenon—making the launch visible in Arizona.  12 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chandler-area youth from Studio 111 Theater Company will perform the musical Annie JR in Phoenix on June 22 at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Madison Center of the Arts—45 local children and teens will bring this hopeful story to life on stage.  Chandler Arizonan

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monsoon is underway and the weather has stayed dry so far; when storms hit, freeways in the Valley will quickly flood and ADOT will work to keep streets clear—helping drivers stay safe.  12 News
  • A fire district serving unincorporated areas around Chandler will hold a bond election this fall—voters will decide on funding for emergency services. The board of directors approved the proposal in April—setting the stage for the measure to appear on the ballot.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler officials partnered with Ameresco+Inc. to install 23 solar panels on public buildings, including libraries and fire stations, with work set to finish in 2026. The $34M project is under a 20-year agreement and is expected to save the city $42.4M in energy costs over the next two decades.  KTAR
  • The Chandler Hot Shots club teaches proper firearm handling to youth ages 8 to 19 and was recognized by Mayor Kevin Hartke and the city council at a May 19 study session for its progress—five members were selected for the Junior Olympics National Championships with Danae Bell placing seventh among 82 competitors at a national event.  Chandler Independent
