- ➤ Chandler Unified ended its summer program on Friday to help pandemic-born kindergarteners build academic and social skills for fall. Educators said students improved in academics with at-home support but still need help with social skills—an issue linked to early COVID-19 isolation. ABC 15
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kim Moyers said Downtown Chandler looks for chances to make alleys safer and boost visibility for residents and visitors — officials will consider projects when these opportunities arise. Local leaders are reviewing plans to improve the area as needed. Chandler Independent
- ➤ State transportation officials said ADOT is working on four freeway projects this weekend. The eastbound Loop 101 ramps are closed until 10 p.m. today and the road is narrowed until 11 p.m. today, the I-17 ramp is closed until 2 p.m. today, and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard is closed until 8 a.m. today — drivers should plan extra time and follow detour routes. - ➤ The Diamondbacks will miss their top catcher Gabriel Moreno (who has a hairline fracture in his finger) and reliever A.J. Puk (who underwent surgery and may need further work) as announced by manager Torey Lovullo. The team said Moreno will be out for weeks while Puk will miss the rest of the season as they continue their road trip in Colorado. 12 News
- ➤ The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 on Thursday — Eugenio Suárez and Pavin Smith hit key homers while Ryne Nelson pitched 5 2/3 innings to earn his second straight win. Suárez drove in four runs with a two-run homer in the second inning and Smith added three runs in the fifth as the team avoided a sweep. 12 News
