  • Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke recognized Read On Chandler at a May 19 City Council study session—praising the group's work to help all children read by third grade—and noted that the collaborative sent 25 VIP guest readers to Title I schools. Volunteers read to 2,200 kindergartners and distributed 24,000 summer reading books as part of its ongoing effort to improve early literacy.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler teen Everett Watson Jr. received a private two-hour tour of State Farm Stadium from FirstBank after he broke his prosthetic foot and raised funds to fix it last fall — he toured locker rooms, press areas and the field while the Cardinals gave him a signed football from Kyler Murray, three team shirts and more sports gear.  Chandler Arizonan

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with national firm BerryDunn to review elections processes including chain of custody, physical security, and ballot drop boxes—funding for the review was approved in February. The contract runs through next June and will update procedures changed since the county’s August Primary election.  KJZZ
