- ➤ Chandler City Council awarded agreements on June 26 for the Turf to Xeriscape program that will convert about 25 acres of turf in stormwater retention basins into desert-adapted landscapes north of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway. The first phase will replace turf with water-saving trees and plants and is partly funded by a WIFA grant—expected to reduce water use by about 22.5 million gallons per year. City of Chandler
