  • Chandler will celebrate Independence Day on July 4 in Downtown Chandler with an All-American Bash featuring live music by Outside the Line, a 15-minute pyrotechnic show at 8:15 p.m.—families can also enjoy yard games, free raffle tickets, and food vendors while parking remains free throughout the area.  Chandler Independent

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A child drowned in Chandler on June 29th and 11 hikers were rescued from a South Mountain trail incident the same day—officials are investigating both events.  12 News
  • A 4-year-old boy died after being pulled from the Hamilton Aquatic Center near Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road in Chandler on Sunday night, and emergency responders said he was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.  ABC 15

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tickets are on sale now for fall and winter shows at the Chandler Center for the Arts, including magician Jen Kramer’s performance on Sept. 13, singer-songwriter Edna Vazquez’s show on Nov. 2, and Disney’s Moana live-to-film concert on Nov. 8—CCA regulars in a Pick 5 promotion can add extra tickets at a discount.  Chandler Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The South County Fire & Medical District is asking for public input on a bond proposal that will be on the Nov. 4 ballot to fund new emergency vehicles and equipment—comments must include the sender’s contact info and be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 18 at Fire Station 232 in Sun Lakes. The district will also mail an informational pamphlet to households with registered voters.  Chandler Independent
  • The Chandler City Council hired a longtime Mesa administrator as acting city manager in the final week of June even though some members questioned the process—he will earn $30,000 per month.  Chandler Independent
