Chandler’s AZCEND is preparing for summer after local food banks saw high volunteer help and donations during November & December to be followed by a drop in support.
The organization said its fed programs will face shortages and is planning steps to manage the change.

Today, the Black Chamber of Arizona is accelerating local small businesses by offering resources and expert guidance to entrepreneurs.
Its efforts will support growth and create opportunities for business owners in Chandler — a boost for the local economy.
🎓 Education
Chandler Unified announced that former Tempe Union High School superintendent Dr. Kevin Mendivil has been promoted to head of its Human Resources Department.
He served as superintendent from 2018 to 2023—later as principal at Auxier Elementary—and he will replace Dr. Jeff Filloon while earning an annual salary of $134,000.

Asset Preservation Wealth & Tax is hosting a free retirement income workshop for retirees and pre-retirees 55 and older on July 10 at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Chandler.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with doors closing at 5:15 p.m. and includes a complimentary dinner after the presentation.

Gov. Katie Hobbs held a ceremonial signing event on July 7 at the Arizona Humane Society to mark the signing of a new animal cruelty law that expands protections and clarifies definitions after a Chandler dog hoarding case.
The law takes effect on Sept. 26 and is supported by law enforcement and animal advocacy groups+ it does not increase penalties for abuse.
🏥 Health
Jewish War Veterans Copper State 619 from Sun Lakes has donated about $3,500 worth of robotic pets—six robotic dogs, five cats, 10 birds, and several pet carriers—to Phoenix VA Medical Center for use by recreation therapists with dementia patients.
The group raises funds twice a year at Fry’s grocery stores and will continue to supply pets as part of its annual budget.
