  • Fry's partnered with United Food Bank to help feed those in need during the Summer of a Million Meals program. The program will supply meals to many local residents this summer — a move that supports community food access — and is expected to reach hundreds.  12 News

  • Hap's Barbecue, a beloved local spot, is closing its doors after 34 years in service—its closure marks the end of an era for many local diners.  12 News
  • Teens in Chandler can now ride Waymo’s self-driving cars by themselves as part of a new test program—one local teen is checking the service to confirm its safety—and officials say the program will expand if the trial works well.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Katie Hobbs and the Department of Public Safety announced the Arizona Turquoise Alert today—a program designed to help law enforcement locate missing people across our area.  12 News
  • Chandler’s City Council approved an expansion of the foreign trade zone originally established more than 30-years ago for Intel, the city’s largest employer. The change gives Intel more flexibility and may boost its operations in Chandler.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler Deputy City Manager Andy Bass will resign his position on Sept. 5 as he takes a new job in Denver as executive director of the South Suburban Park and Recreation District, effective Sept. 8 — he joined Chandler as Community Services Director in July 2019 and was promoted to Deputy City Manager in January 2022.  City of Chandler
  • The eastbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Alma School Road in Chandler will close for about 60 days starting at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 for ramp reconstruction as part of ADOT's widening project — drivers should use Price Road or Arizona Avenue and plan extra travel time because of work zone restrictions. The ramp is scheduled to reopen by mid-September.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler approved a $5.1M project to convert 25 acres of retention basin turf to xeriscape—expected to cut 22.5 million gallons of water use per year and save taxpayer money. A compromise was reached at one site to retain two 40-foot circles of grass as work begins this month and planting shifts to spring.  Chandler Arizonan
