BUSINESS NEWS

  • Waymo is launching a secure ride program for teens ages 14-17 in its Valley service area—teen accounts will link to a parent or guardian's account, with trained support staff available. The service, which had early access in Phoenix, will soon expand to cover a full area of 315 square miles including portions of west Chandler.  Chandler Independent

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said a pizza delivery driver was arrested for reckless driving and racing near Rural Road and E Gilbert Drive—police finished his delivery—as he rushed to complete his order.  12 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials said the A Block lawsuit over hot pavement is still active and wildfire teams are checking current conditions—more details will be shared soon. Local agencies are working together on legal and safety efforts—Chandler residents should stay alert for updates.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chandler City Council met almost all of its 2023 goals during a recent strategic framework session and set nuanced objectives to be reached by early 2027 — council members will continue to address these priorities in upcoming sessions.  Chandler Independent
  • Attorney General Kris Mayes went to court to request permanent injunctions against New York Smoke Shop in Chandler and Pro Source in Scottsdale and Glendale for selling tobacco and vaping products to minors without proper ID checks. Her action follows undercover stings that found children ages 16—17 were able to make purchases despite age restrictions.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler Deputy City Manager Andy Bass will leave for a new job as executive director of the South Suburban Park and Recreation District in the Denver area effective Sept. 8 — his last day in Chandler is Sept. 5 as the city faces another key leadership vacancy. City Manager Josh Wright said Bass has been a strong advocate for Chandler’s parks and recreation system during his tenure.  Chandler Independent
