Gila River Resorts & Casinos Santan Mountain will start offering bingo on Aug.

29 in South Chandler to provide a budget-friendly gaming option for local residents. The casino plans two sessions daily—a noon and a 6:30 p.m. session, a mini session at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday night B.A.D. bingo at 11:30 p.m.—while American Legion Post officials said their charity bingo games remain unaffected.

A Chandler court case against April McLaughlin, accused of abusing special needs dogs, was delayed when her attorney filed for a 60-day continuance and set a new trial date for September 3—prosecutors and her lawyer are working toward a settlement in a complex case with 24 charges and many pieces of evidence.

The Chandler Unified School District Governing Board split along ideological lines after a June 25 meeting when parental rights members and old guard board members voted 3—2 on motions about consent agenda items, digital resource approvals and membership fees, and debates stretched meetings from 90 minutes to nearly three hours.

Twelve high school JROTC cadets were honored for their outstanding character and service with four winners from Chandler schools; each cadet received a $1,000 scholarship while their programs also got $1,000 for equipment+ uniforms.

Starting Sept. 26 it will be a crime in Arizona to fail to give proper medical care to a pet—closing a loophole exposed by a Chandler case where nearly five dozen dogs were rescued from a hoarding situation.

Gov. Hobbs signed the law at the Humane Society and said it will give law enforcement faster tools to prevent animal suffering.
