The former Assistance League of East Valley now operates as Valley Bloom and continues its work in Chandler with a thrift shop and programs to help children and families in need.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting will take place at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20—while the shop remains open summer hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays at 2326 N. Alma School Rd.

Chandler City Council was divided at a work session on water rates—discussions centered on Intel's influence on the current utility rate plan.
The council will review proposals and decide on any changes in the coming weeks.
Arizona regulators ordered Thin Blue Line Benefits Association to stop operations and asked the Attorney General to investigate alleged consumer fraud violations after nearly 4,600 members paid almost $6 million in premiums and faced unpaid claims.
The department directed the company to pay all outstanding obligations under current contracts until cancellation notices are sent by mid-August—members are advised to explore alternative coverage options.
🏥 Health
On Monday, Maricopa County's Health Department said an older adult with weak health died of West Nile virus—this is the season's first death—and there are now 17 confirmed cases.
Health officials say the virus spreads by mosquitoes from May to October and advise residents to use bug spray and remove standing water.
