  • Milkshake Factory opened its first Arizona location on Aug 2 at 4955 S. Alma School Rd., Suite 4955-13 in a Hornaek’s Golf shopping center in south Chandler—this dessert cafe serves handspun milkshakes and small-batch chocolates made fresh daily and is owned by local operator Kavita Kumar, who plans five more locations in the area.  Chandler Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kyrene de la Sierra Elementary School closed its campus Sunday after air tests found high particulate levels during roof construction & officials stressed that safety came first. Students are learning online until Aug. 8 & will move to an alternate campus from Aug. 11 through Sept. 26.  Chandler Independent
  • Canyon Springs STEM Academy in Deer Valley Unified School District taught eighth graders about AI bias as part of a new push for ethical AI use—administrators are training teachers with hands-on strategies and secure tools while the state supports partnerships with companies like Canvas and Khanmigo. This effort helps ensure students learn safe, responsible digital skills as AI becomes a key part of classwork.  12 News
  • Angelica Abbey, a sixth-grade teacher at Frye Elementary in Chandler, is among 10 semifinalists for the Arizona Educational Foundation’s Teacher of the Year award to be announced on Oct. 18—she has also been recognized in previous contests and by the Chandler Chamber of Commerce. The award event, held at the Madison Center for the Arts in Phoenix, will select a winner—who will represent Arizona nationally.  Chandler Independent

  • The City of Chandler launched LEAD Chandler — a new program developed with Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Chandler Unified School District — to provide professional training for residents ages 17 to 24.
