  • A video production crew from Basha High School earned gold at the 2025 SkillsUSA National Championships in Atlanta—marking the first time an Arizona team won a national video production award, and the achievement was acknowledged at the Aug. 6 Chandler Unified School District Governing Board meeting.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler Unified School District is enforcing a new state law that restricts student cellphone and device use since the school year began. Teachers give a first warning by taking a device, send it to security on a second offense, and keep it in the office on a third offense—some teachers have asked for storage containers despite no state funding.  Chandler Arizonan

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Fire & Medical Authority is holding two open houses for voters in the South County Fire & Medical District to learn about a $22.9 million bond proposal that will pay for new fire engines, better medical equipment, and station upgrades. The meetings are on Aug. 30 in Tonopah and Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at Fire Station 341 on Sun Lakes Blvd, with voters needing to register by Oct. 6 ahead of the Nov. 4 vote.  Chandler Independent
