East Valley Rotary clubs and friends raised nearly $10,000 to sponsor the annual Special Olympics conference held at the San Marcos Hotel in Chandler on Aug.
8. About 150 law enforcement officers and athletes attended and heard keynote speaker Anthony Robles— a Mesa native and Hamilton High School coach— share insights on fundraising and support for Arizona’s 22,000 Special Olympics athletes.

Chandler Unified School District and other EVIT-contracted districts oppose a proposal for next school year's funding cuts that would pay only for service costs.
They argue that the current system lets extra funds roll over and plan to clarify their partnership with EVIT — district leaders said.
