Chandler police chased a suspect who attempted a break-in and engaged in a shooting — the suspect was killed.

Police answered a call at a home on Frye Road and Windstream Place early Thursday and chased a man who fled in his car, rammed a patrol car, and got out with a gun near the downtown intersection—which was shut down because of his actions.

Chandler City Council approved a $350,000 contract to handle a pigeon problem at City Hall and Chandler Center for the Arts—pigeons had caused damage with droppings and nests.

The contract covers cleaning, installing drop ceilings, and using new technology to stop the birds, and it will use data to check how well the work works.
