🎓 Education
Kyrene School District plans to close two middle and four elementary schools next school year if its board approves the Long Range Planning Committee recommendation at its Sept.
16 meeting. Enrollment is down and the changes aim to boost capacity — public hearings will begin mid-October to discuss the plan further.
Nila Sathyan, a Chandler resident and Desert Vista High School graduate, will receive a $10K scholarship from Cox Communications to study biology at Arizona State University.
The award shows Cox's support for local students—helping them pursue higher education.
Chandler Unified School District is starting a new program where teachers spend 10 minutes in a colleague’s classroom to review practices and share insights—part of the Journey to Excellence plan and focus on Universal Design for Learning.
Elementary teachers are covered by substitutes while middle and high school teachers use planning time to participate.

Chandler’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division and ARISE Alliance Institute are hosting a free mental health workshop series at the Downtown Chandler Library, with sessions on Sept.
9 and Sept. 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Licensed social worker Estefana Johnson will guide the first session on managing stress and the second on setting boundaries.
