CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Chandler police officer was injured during a traffic stop in Tempe on Saturday night when a motorcyclist fled and then struggled with the officer after he attempted to disable the bike—backup quickly arrested the suspect who now faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful flight, reckless driving, criminal speed, endangerment and resisting arrest, and the officer hit his head on the ground though he was cleared by the fire department. - ➤ Alan Ramias— a Vietnam veteran who lives in Chandler— released his second book, Miss Moon: Stories and Poems, in June. He uses his time as an Army reporter and work in business to write stories and poems that show how war changes lives. Chandler Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kyrene School District will close eight schools next school year if the board approves a recommendation from its Long Range Planning Committee— the plan calls for shuttering two middle and six elementary schools, including Mirada Elementary in Chandler, with public hearings set for October and November before a board vote on December 16.
