- ➤ Chandler’s Golden Neighbors program will launch on Sept. 11 with a free event where Oak Street Health will share tips and Medicare help to keep seniors active—held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at ASU Chandler Innovation Center in downtown Chandler. Chandler Independent
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A worker was injured while working on lights at Hohokam Stadium—emergency responders rescued him and ensured he received prompt care. 12 News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Intel filed a notice with Arizona Workforce Connections on Aug. 25 saying up to 97 Chandler workers will lose their jobs — this follows earlier announcements in July that increased the planned cuts. The move adds to a series of workforce reductions at the city’s largest employer. Chandler Independent
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A free family event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month will be held at Chandler Public Library downtown on September 20—featuring music, dance, art, food and cultural traditions for all ages. Organizers say the event will honor the rich contributions of the Hispanic community and welcome locals to join in the celebration. Chandler Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kyrene School District will decide in December which schools to close permanently starting in the 2026 to 2027 school year because enrollment declines have reduced funding — a planning committee of parents, teachers and community members met on Sept. 16 to review options. Public hearings are set for Oct. 15 and Nov. 20, and the board will vote on closures on Dec. 16 — schools on the east side of I-10 in Tempe and Chandler may be affected. Chandler Independent
