The Arizona Black Rodeo returned to Scottsdale this weekend, featuring events such as calf roping + bull riding and barrel racing that honor the legacy of Black cowboys and cowgirls; more competitions will take place today as the event continues.

Tumbleweed Ranch, a historic 19-acre site in Tumbleweed Park, will close in October for 555 days for improvements — the project will relocate the Red Shed Theater for educational events and add ADA access to the farmhouses.

Four respiratory therapy students from Pima Medical Institute’s Mesa campus, the Phlegm Fellas, won the state championship and will compete at the National Sputum Bowl in New Orleans Nov.

Harris is hosting the 25th-anniversary Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11 — the event will honor lives lost in the 2001 attacks, recognize first responders, and feature remarks from U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton along with community partners.

Maricopa County Stadium District executive Mark Winkleman said the Diamondbacks and the board are finalizing a deal that will secure Chase Field and allocate public funds for repairs.

The team has hired a national group to assess needed fixes on the 30-year-old stadium — including concrete, AC, roof and plumbing.
