- ➤ Jewish War Veterans Copper State Post 619 will host Jeremy Isom from a Mesa Veterans Health Administration office for a talk at Oakwood Country Club Ballroom in Sun Lakes on Sunday, Sept. 28. He will explain that veterans can get mental health and counseling services even if they are not registered with the VA — a benefit designed to help with their readjustment. Chandler Independent
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Chandler police responded just before 2 a.m. on Sept.6 to a shooting in the 3000 block of Arizona Avenue near Elliott Road, where a victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen is expected to make a full recovery. No suspect has been detained— and the investigation continues with police stating there is no threat to the public at this time. Chandler Independent

- ➤ At its Sept. 3 meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a downtown update (DRAP) that combines the Redevelopment Area Plan, the South Arizona Avenue Entry Corridor Study, and the South Arizona Avenue Design Guidelines. The plan now awaits City Council approval. Chandler Independent
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Families in Arizona are urged to talk with their kids about their feelings and mental health as the Arizona Department of Health Services reports that about 1 million people have been affected by suicide—men, rural residents, and veterans show higher risk, and it is now the second leading cause of death for those ages 10 to 34.
