- ➤ Angelica Abbey, a sixth-grade teacher at Frye Elementary in Chandler, is one of five finalists for the Arizona Teacher of the Year award and the winner will be announced on Oct 18—she will then represent Arizona in the National Teacher of the Year competition. Chandler Independent
- ➤ Chandler Unified School District hired Osborn Maledon P.A. as special counsel after its Sept. 10 board vote to block proposed EVIT funding cuts. The board also authorized future legal action on EVIT and CTED matters—one member opposed the motion. Chandler Independent
- ➤ School boards in East Valley and Cave Creek met behind closed doors last week to plan a legal fight—aimed at stopping EVIT's changes to funding and control over on-site vocational classes—and Chandler Unified approved hiring a special lawyer.
