- ➤ J. Alexander's is hiring today for its first Arizona steak and seafood restaurant in west Chandler and will open mid-November—its new site at 7111 W. Ray Road, the former Buca di Beppo location near Lowe's and In-N-Out Burger, will add 90 to 100 jobs. Chandler Independent
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 14, ten East Valley Young Marines and adult volunteers from Chandler joined 76 others in Window Rock to honor the Navajo Code Talkers—few of whom are still living. They participated in a community service clean-up at the Navajo Nation Zoo, climbed the Code Talkers Monument, and ran a 5K to remember the World War II heroes. Chandler Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Parents strongly opposed a committee’s recommendation to close schools — including Mirada Elementary in Chandler — as the Kyrene School District faces a drop in enrollment; the proposal will be formally presented on Tuesday, Sept 16 with a board decision set for Dec 16. This opposition comes amid plans to convert one school into a gifted academy and close schools to bring remaining campuses closer to capacity. Chandler Arizonan
