J. Alexander's is hiring today for its first Arizona steak and seafood restaurant in west Chandler and will open mid-November—its new site at 7111 W.

Ray Road, the former Buca di Beppo location near Lowe's and In-N-Out Burger, will add 90 to 100 jobs.

On Aug. 14, ten East Valley Young Marines and adult volunteers from Chandler joined 76 others in Window Rock to honor the Navajo Code Talkers—few of whom are still living.

They participated in a community service clean-up at the Navajo Nation Zoo, climbed the Code Talkers Monument, and ran a 5K to remember the World War II heroes.

Parents strongly opposed a committee’s recommendation to close schools — including Mirada Elementary in Chandler — as the Kyrene School District faces a drop in enrollment; the proposal will be formally presented on Tuesday, Sept 16 with a board decision set for Dec 16.

This opposition comes amid plans to convert one school into a gifted academy and close schools to bring remaining campuses closer to capacity.

Chandler City Council will vote on a nearly $1.6 million contract for work along a downtown street today—this project is one of many items on the agenda that also includes a 4 p.m. executive session for legal updates on several cases.
