BUSINESS NEWS

  • Michelle Winters and her husband opened the first Peach Cobbler Factory in Arizona on Aug. 2 in Chandler and drew long lines of customers. The shop offers peach cobbler, banana pudding, brownies, cookies, and more in a space where toppings are added in view — delivery service began at the end of August and another location in Queen Creek is expected to open soon.  Chandler Arizonan

CULTURE NEWS

  • Six Chandler-area arts organizations received about $40K in state grants with the Chandler Center for the Arts awarded $16,000, the Chandler Children's Choir receiving $7,000, the Southwest Youth Ballet Theatre getting $3,900, and both the Pacific Islands Festival and Summer Arts Learning at ICAN earning $5,000 — final reports were due on Monday, Sept. 15.  Chandler Independent
  • Valley Duran Duran fans can secure tickets for the band's exclusive show at PHX Arena on January 5 as the concert will kick off at 8 p.m. Presales start Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time and remaining tickets will be available to the public Friday at 10 a.m.  KTAR
  • The Sumo + Sushi tour will fill Chandler's Rawhide Event Center from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 — it will feature over 12 sumo exhibitions, a Q&A session, and authentic sushi by Valley chefs. The first two days will be for those 21 and over while the final day will welcome all ages — ticket prices will range from $105.21 to $434.98.  KTAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grand Canyon University and Chandler’s McCarthy Building Cos. expanded the Center for Workforce Development to add four new trades and will launch the Pre-Apprentice Construction General Pathway this fall for civil construction and mechanical/plumbing training—HVAC and concrete courses will begin in fall 2026. The program builds on a model that trained more than 490 students and partners with East Valley Institute of Technology to support future apprenticeships.  Chandler Independent

  • College Savings Month in September reminds local families to explore options like regular savings accounts, Coverdell Education Savings accounts, and 529 plans that grow tax-deferred with tax-free withdrawals for education expenses—each option offers different benefits. Tempe-based TruWest Credit Union advises parents to start early and research the requirements to set a clear financial path for their child's college future.  Chandler Independent

  • Chandler’s Frye Road Protected Bike Lane Project still faces more work and restrictions—traffic adjustments remain as the city continues improvements after early summer, even though some restrictions were lifted on Sept. 12. HEALTH NEWS

  • Elizabeth Lee of Gilbert became a nurse to solve her own health mystery after years of misdiagnoses and discovered extra ribs and a condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. She recently filed paperwork to run for Congress and now wants a health care system that works better—her experience shows the need for change.  KJZZ
