  • Stewart Title hosts an Acoustic Nites Open House fundraiser for Fest in the Hills that features live music, an auction, food, drinks — and dancing for a festive local event.  Chandler Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Newest Americans exhibit opens Sept. 30 at Chandler Museum and runs through Jan. 18 — it shows 29 portraits and interviews from immigrants of 23 countries to spark discussion on citizenship and the American Dream.  City of Chandler

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kyrene School District board heard over 90 speakers on Tuesday — including an emotional testimony from Alexandra O’Rourke of Estrella Elementary — as they discussed recommendations to close at least 10 schools. Parents and students from Phoenix, Tempe and Chandler expressed deep concern about the future of their local schools.  Chandler Independent
  • Troy Lynch stopped by Metro Tech High School on Tuesday to see the grand opening of its new flower shop — a fresh addition to the campus.  12 News
  • Education Forward Arizona will honor Dr. Judy Robles at its InspirED Evening celebration on Oct. 29 in Scottsdale—she will receive the Stellar Achievement Award for her work at ASU and her role in mentoring students, including guiding her son, national wrestling champion Anthony Robles. This award celebrates her dedication to advancing education and supporting first-generation students.  Chandler Arizonan

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Chandler City Council voted this summer to add several measures to a special Nov. 4 mail-only ballot — including a proposal to raise a property tax so the city can issue $275M in general obligation bonds for its Capital Improvement Plan and other projects. Voters must register by Oct. 6 with a valid Arizona driver’s license or ID card.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler’s Code Enforcement Resident Academy will run this fall for three sessions at the Downtown Chandler Library—Copper Room South, 22 S. Delaware St. on Oct. 8, 15 and 22 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the free course will teach residents about property maintenance, common code violations and how to report issues while offering a prize drawing for full attendance.  Chandler Independent
  • Justice Maria Elena Cruz appeared on Today in AZ today—talking with Allison Rodriguez about her time in office and sharing her experiences in serving the community.  12 News
  • On Sept.15, Chandler City Council discussed plans and heard presentations for a new Forensic Services Facility—a crime lab—as part of its largest post-COVID construction project. The Council will vote today on a $431,000 contract with Willmeng Construction to manage the building process.  Chandler Independent
  • Gov. Katie Hobbs ordered flags at state buildings to be lowered at half-staff yesterday for firefighter Brenna Kulikowski and today for firefighter Damon Thompson—both were lost after a Sunday head-on crash on State Route 260.  KTAR
