On Thursday, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended that pediatricians give separate MMR and Varicella shots to kids 12 to 15 months instead of the combined MMRV vaccine—after studies noted rare fevers and rashes—with the option to use the combined shot at age 4 if preferred. Will Humble, a former public health official, said the change is safe since many doctors in Arizona already give the shots separately.
