COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Arizona leaders, advocates and youth gathered last month for the East Valley Teen Mental Health and Violence Prevention Summit to address rising issues of youth violence and mental health, citing surveys that showed many teens feel unsafe and bullied in schools. The summit focused on proactive reforms by strengthening support systems in schools, homes and communities—calling for greater accountability from parents, educators and the judicial system.  Chandler Arizonan

  • TSMC will launch at least three massive new developments in the north Valley — the projects are set to be underway soon.  12 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chandler Museum opened today a second show with Organic Architecture + Design Archives that shows how desert-inspired designs by Frank Lloyd Wright and Paolo Soleri shape local art. The exhibit runs through Feb. 1 and is free to visit at 300 S. Chandler Village Drive.  City of Chandler
  • Today, the downtown Chandler Public Library hosts ¡Día de Fiesta! to kick off Chandler Contigo in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month with live music from Nueva Fusion, dance, crafts, food trucks, and vendors, and the event also features folklórico performers La Llorona and Lucha Libre masked wrestlers — it runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chandler City Council approved contracts on Sept. 18 for a new 66-inch redundant sewer line near the Loop 101 and Loop 202 interchange to bolster city utility infrastructure. The project will install 700 linear feet of pipe and modify existing lines with work awarded to B&F Contracting Inc. and Wilson Engineers, LLC — measures taken to prevent future system failures.  City of Chandler
  • Two south Chandler land parcels that had sparked debates for three years moved closer to city inclusion when Chandler Acquisition I, LLC received a pre-annexation development agreement approved Sept. 18 by the city council—clearing the way for future industrial permitting, while Dominium Properties had proposed an apartment project called Sonoran Landings on a nearby 25-acre site.  Chandler Independent

  • Vuori will offer free workout classes and give 1,000 bonus points to support a local school at Chandler Fashion Center on Saturday, September 27 at 8:00 AM—this offer blends exercise with community education support.  Chandler Independent

  • Friday Night Fever Week 4 ended with Horizon winning 27-7 over Sunnyslope—Chandler defeating Williams Field 27-14, Hamilton beating Brophy Prep 70-33, Perry topping Highland 35-10, Mesa outlasting Desert Ridge 53-6, Saguaro besting Cesar Chavez 45-7, Arcadia beating Deer Valley 28-3, and Pinnacle securing a 41-11 win over Higley.  12 News
