CULTURE NEWS

  • Chandler Unified Latino students showcased their Hispanic Heritage Month display at a CUSD board meeting on Sept. 10, featuring music, poetry and cultural performances. Hamilton High School senior Helen Fernandez introduced the event — dozens of students handed out Latin flags as the program honored traditions from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler moviegoers will have a chance to see Taylor Swift's official movie release at Harkins this fall — the screening promises a fun film experience as details are finalized.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chandler’s Neighborhood Preservation Officer team was named 2025 Code Enforcement Department of the Year by the Arizona Code Enforcement Association on Sept. 22—earning the honor for its new Resident Academy and Graffiti Education Outreach Program and strong community outreach.  City of Chandler
  • Chandler residents will soon be able to ride Waymo’s driverless vehicles with Chandler Flex—an effort that offers rides for $2 and a discounted $1 option for Waymo trips during busy times. The new partnership is the first time a public transit network in the United States will include driverless vehicles and allows riders to book through the Waymo app.  Chandler Independent
  • Chandler Unified revised its fiscal 2025-26 budget on Sept. 10 after the finance chief resolved unsettled totals and funding questions from previous board meetings—an action prompted by a drop in enrollment.   • Arizona's electric vehicle incentives will expire on Oct.1, which means car buyers in Chandler will lose current tax credits when buying a new vehicle. The change may raise costs as buyers will no longer receive these benefits—prompting a need for careful planning.  12 News
  • The city of Chandler received awards for its employee and community health programs on Sept. 22nd after earning the Healthy Arizona Worksite Platinum Award from the Arizona Department of Health Services — Vitalent also recognized the city for its blood drive efforts.  City of Chandler
  • Gov. Katie Hobbs appointed Jimmy McCain to the Arizona Board of Regents on Monday, praising his strong service record and Arizona ties—he is the youngest son of the late Sen. John McCain and holds degrees from ASU. McCain said he is honored by the appointment and is set to support northern Arizona students.  KJZZ

  • Chandler native Preslee Buher grew up flying near Stellar Air Park with her father — who died in a helicopter crash in 2004. She is now studying for her Certified Flight Instructor certificate at UND Aerospace at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and plans to build her career in airplane flying that honors the happy times she shared with him.  Chandler Arizonan
