- ➤ The eighth annual Rob Dollar Memorial Ride will be held on Oct. 26 at South Mountain Park in Phoenix from 7 a.m. to noon — it honors a late Chandler rider killed in 2017 and will support his father and the foundation’s push for safer cycling in Arizona. Chandler Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arizona users will be blocked from PornHub starting tomorrow as the new age-verification law takes effect to protect children—this law requires sites with over a third of porn content to verify users are 18 and sets fines up to $250,000 for noncompliance. PornHub said it is blocking access due to safety concerns while experts warn the law may boost cyber risks for personal data. 12 News
- ➤ Chandler City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement on Sept 18 to pay $190K for a marketing campaign that will attract young families and young professionals — the city shares funding with local school districts to help reverse the rising average age of residents. Chandler Independent
- ➤ Chandler is partnering with Waymo to offer $1 rides through its Chandler Flex service—marking the first time a city transit network uses autonomous vehicles. City officials announced the discount is available for a limited time during busy periods on a service that normally costs $2 from Monday to Friday. 12 News
- ➤ Chandler City Council awarded a nearly $35 million contract to B and F Contracting Inc. for a new 66-inch backup sewer line under Loop 101/202 and a separate $2.4 million contract to Wilson Engineers for professional services; the project will improve sewer redundancy raised in a 2018 assessment—using cured-in-place pipe lining for rehabilitation.
