Chandler Unified School District had 40,099 students this year (down from a peak of 45,814), which is a smaller drop than in other districts like Kyrene and Gilbert.
The district expects enrollment to fall to 34,839 by 2034-35 due to lower birth rates, limited housing, an aging population and more school competition (San Marcos Elementary once faced closure if numbers dropped below 300) but no immediate school shutdowns are planned.
Chandler's Mayor Kevin Hartke and the City Council have announced that applications are open for CIVIC, a free 13-session program that gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at city services.
The program will launch in January when sessions take place every other Wednesday from 4:30–7 p.m. at various locations until June, and applications close Sunday, Dec. 7th.
