- ➤ Chandler and the BAM Foundation will host the Road to Riches Santa at City Hall Car Show & Holiday Market on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City Hall Parking Garage at 240 S. Washington Street—this free event will feature show cars, holiday shopping, food trucks, kids' crafts, and photos with Santa while proceeds aid the Chandler Public Housing Authority’s Road to Riches program. - ➤ Jewish War Veterans Copper State Post 619 raised over $17,000 at 10 Fry’s stores in the Phoenix East Valley over Veterans Day weekend—this was the first poppy campaign that accepted digital donations, including $500 via Zelle. - ➤ At the Nov. 12 meeting, the Chandler Unified Governing Board celebrated Indigenous Heritage Month with a performance by the Taylor family and a recognition ceremony for Indigenous educators. Antonette Shirley was honored for earning a national teaching award — the district’s Indigenous Education Program was named an exemplary runner-up by the Johnson O’Malley Program. - ➤ KHovnanian Homes has proposed building 107 homes on 18.64 acres along Basha Road and says the old water tower is unsafe. Some neighbors want to keep the historic tower — the City Council will review the proposal in December — as they worry that more homes may lead to tougher traffic and safety issues near the park.
